Epic has announced that it has been recognized as the Large Company of the Year by the North Carolina Technology Association (NCTA), as part of the NCTA 21 Awards, which honor innovation and leadership in technology in North Carolina.
The NCTA 21 awards are grouped in five categories: Technology Industry Awards, Stage of Development Awards, Functional Awards, Leadership Awards and Excellence Awards. Epic Games received the large company Stage of Development award for its success following the launch of
Gears of War, and was also honored for its
Unreal series, in addition to Epic's commercial game engine, Unreal Engine 3.
Other finalists in the Large Company of the Year category included Accenture, Cisco, Red Hat and Microsoft Charlotte.
Epic president Michael Capps said, "It’s such an honor for a private company with less than a hundred employees to be nominated in a category with four world-class publicly held companies. To win the award was such a great surprise, and I couldn’t be more proud of our team."
