In a short statement from the UK-based Entertainment and Leisure Software Publishers Association (ELSPA), the trade body has revealed that it will be cancelling the Europe Games Network (EGN) game publisher/business event for 2005.
EGN was originally scheduled to run along side the public Game Zone Live games show, which
was cancelled in late March following last year's confusion of rival UK game events that included the ECTS trade show.
However, a statement from the trade body noted: "ELSPA confirmed that it will be considering what options may exist for the continuation of a European computer and video games business event, which can take place in the UK", leaving the possibility of further events in subsequent years open.
This cancellation means that the remaining UK game industry events for 2005 now number ELSPA's two-day International Games Summit high-level business conference, due to be held at the end of June, a developer track for the Edinburgh Interactive Entertainment Festival in August, and the
recently confirmed Game Developers Conference Europe (operated by CMP, which also owns Gamasutra.com), due to take place from August 30th through Thursday, September 1th at London's Le Meridien Hotel.
