The shortlist of nominees for the 2006 EIEF Edge Award, to be presented at this year's Edinburgh Interactive Entertainment Festival, has been revealed by the event’s organizers. Unusually, the list of titles are drawn from games reviewed by Future Publishing’s Edge UK video game magazine over the past year, including titles that have not yet, or never will be, released in the UK. The games have been nominated not necessarily for their overall quality, but because they "expand expectations of what games are capable of". The eight Edge Award nominees are as follows: Amped 3 (360, Indie Built/Take-Two) Brain Training (DS, Nintendo) Dragon Quest VIII (PS2, Level 5/Square Enix) Electroplankton (DS, Toshio Iwai/Nintendo) Fahrenheit, aka Indigo Prophecy (PC/PS2/Xbox, Quantic Dream/Atari) Guitar Hero (PS2, Harmonix/Red Octane) killer7 (GC/PS2, Grasshopper/Capcom) Ossu! Tatakae! Ouendan (DS, iNiS/Nintendo) The shortlist will now be considered by an international panel of game industry insiders, the jurors of which will be announced in an upcoming issue of Edge. The EIEF06 program consists of two days of conference sessions on August 21st and 22nd, as well as various game screenings for members of the public. The event runs alongside the popular Edinburgh Arts Festival, more traditionally known for its theatre, comedy and music attractions. Further information on EIEF06 can be found at the official website.
