Eidos Cites Good Christmas, But Issues Profit Warning

Eidos executives announced that the company enjoyed a better Christmas selling season than expected, but warned of anemic year-end results due to game delays.
The company, which will announce Q3 results on February 28, named three games in particular whose delay will hurt the company: Commandos 2, Startopia and Gangsters 2. All three will ship next fiscal year (after March 31). Eidos also said that the shortage of PS2s has resulted in lower game sales. Consequently, it's pushing back the release date of three upcoming PS2 titles (including Herdy Gerdy and Eden). On the upside, some of the company's titles did better than expected in Q3. Who Wants to be a Millionaire sold well in the UK and Germany, and Championship Manager: Season 2000/2001 did well across Europe, pushing sales and profits for the quarter past earlier projections. Analysts are expecting Eidos pre-tax profits for the year to be 18.1 million pounds ($26.28 million) -- over 60% lower than last year.
