ECA Institute Launches 'Gamers For Health' Program

The Entertainment Consumer Association's charitable arm has formed a new work group to explore and promote the intersection between video games and health, starting with a web group.
New motion controlled dance and fitness games are still finding excited audiences, and Wii fitness titles have been thriving throughout this console generation. In light of that consumer environment, the Entertainment Consumer Association's charitable arm has formed a new work group to explore and promote the intersection between video games and health. The ECA Institute's Gamers For Health group aims to establish a "destination" on the web for healthy gaming, where it'll offer tools, resources and other info for those interested in fitness gaming. Jennifer Mercurio, ECA VP, explains: "With Gamers for Health, we're creating a community of support and incentive, which is why some of us here at the ECA have already begun this program, and we'll be offering incentives for members along the way." On the site, members create profiles to show their fitness goals and the games they'll be playing to get there. Individuals can help each other create health programs and support one another in following them. "We all know the importance of leading a healthy and active lifestyle, and video games can help us achieve our goals," she says.
