300 and Watchmen movie director Zack Snyder has signed a deal with Electronic Arts to make three new original titles, mirroring a similar deal made with Steven Spielberg in 2005.
Like Spielberg, Snyder will oversee the creation of three new titles at EA’s Los Angeles studio in Playa Vista, with the publisher retaining all the intellectual property rights.
According to the official statement, Electronic Arts will also maintain the option to turn any of the games into movie properties, to be produced by Snyder’s Cruel & Unusual Films.
The deal with Spielberg has so far generated the well-received puzzle game Boom Blox
, with the next, more immersive Spielberg title being worked on with EALA's Doug Church given the codename of LMNO
. No details were disclosed on Snyder's projects.
"Zack Snyder has a fresh and bold creative style that resonates with our core audience," says EA Games label president Frank Gibeau. "Zack is the perfect partner for joining us in creating powerful new interactive fiction."
"I think video games are cool because they offer an opportunity to tell a story in an entirely unique way," said Zack Snyder. “Being a long time fan of the games EA creates, I look forward to collaborating with them."
