Electronic Arts has announced the acquisition of Atlanta-based Super Computer International (SCI), a provider of gaming client applications and software tools for the PC. Under the acquisition, EA will purchase SCI's technology assets, and the SCI development team will join EA’s Online Technology Group. SCI is the creator of PlayLinc, an online game browsing and messaging platform launched last year by AOL and Verizon. It includes social networking tools like IM and VoIP, buddy tracking, player invitations, team management and more. Electronic Arts has yet to announce what uses it will make of the technology. The company says SCI CEO Jesper Jensen will continue to lead the PlayLinc team. Jensen will be reporting to EA vice president and Online COO Nanea Reeves. “SCI’s development expertise is uniquely suited to our online technology needs,” said Nanea Reeves. “The team’s technical leadership and creative approach is a great fit, and we’re thrilled to have them join EA.”
