Major publisher and developer Electronic Arts announced that it has already sold an estimated 2 million copies of Madden NFL 07 since it was released on August 22, a new all-time record for the veteran sports franchise. The game is currently available for the Xbox 360, Xbox, PlayStation 2, GameCube, PC, Nintendo DS and PSP, with versions for the Wii and PlayStation 3 planned for release later this year alongside each console's respective launch. If accurate, this would make the latest entry in the 17-year old franchise the best selling version yet, up a full 12 percent from sales of last year's release, which saw sales of 1.8 million units over the same general period. In addition, news earlier today from Microsoft also highlighted the fact that players of the Xbox 360 version of Madden NFL 07 have in its first week of availability unlocked more than 600,000 achievements and hosted more than 2 million hours of gameplay on the annual football game over Xbox Live. "We put a ton of innovation into Madden NFL 07 from new game modes and controls to NFL Superstar Hall of Fame," said Todd Sitrin, EA Vice President of Marketing. "Consumers are the most meaningful judge of game quality and based on sales and the record-setting online activity, our toughest critics think Madden NFL has delivered another great game experience."
