EA Announces Multiplayer PC Card-Based RTS BattleForge

Electronic Arts has announced that Germany-based developer EA Phenomic (Spellforce) is working on BattleForge, a PC online real-time strategy title with a card-collecting and trading component, slated for release this fall.
Electronic Arts and developer EA Phenomic Studio (Spellforce) have announced BattleForge, a PC RTS in which players battle each other and “conquer massive online battlegrounds” with armies assembled from collectible trading cards. Players can form their army’s card deck by winning, trading, or buying cards on BattleForge’s online market place. Chat rooms, guilds, and other community features will also be included for BattleForge’s players. BattleForge takes place in an epic fantasy world where mortals are caught in a clash between insane gods and ancient giants. Players will have the forces of Fire, Frost, Nature, and Shadow to create their armies. Richard Leinfellner, Electronic Arts executive producer and vice president, commented of the announcement: "BattleForge is the next step in compelling RTS gameplay by taking the battles completely online. With co-op play, challenging tournaments, Guilds, chat rooms and a robust marketplace for trading and buying your cards; BattleForge is the first RTS to add integral social and community components to an exciting fantasy RTS."
