During its E3 press conference today, publisher Ubisoft announced it is developing the video game tie-in to The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, Steven Spielberg's big-screen adaptation of Herge's classic comic series.
Ubisoft's Montpellier studio is taking the reins on the project, which is not due to ship until the film's planned October 2011 release.
The movie, produced by Spielberg alongside Peter Jackson and Kathleen Kennedy, will be 3D animated, making heavy use of motion-capture. Ubisoft promises its developers will work closely with the film's crew to ensure a "closely tied" game.
"We're incredibly excited to have the opportunity to work on the Tintin game," said Ubisoft worldwide licensing VP Christian Salomon in a statement. "We're honored to bring one of the world's most iconic comic characters to life in this new title."
Ubisoft's video game tie-in for King Kong, another Peter Jackson project, was also developed Ubisoft Montpellier under the stewardship of
Beyond Good & Evil and
Rayman creator Michel Ancel. There is no indication as to the specific designers responsible for the Tintin game.
Said Paramount Digital Entertainment president Thomas Lesinski, "We look forward to working with Ubisoft and the filmmakers to create exciting new interactive adventures for Tintin. The upcoming video game will reintroduce Tintin to a whole new generation of gamers."
