E3: Gaikai, EA Partner For Streaming PC Games

Cloud-based gaming service Gaikai and Electronic Arts announced a multi-year licensing deal that will make a number of EA's PC franchises, such as The Sims and Mass Effect, available to stream through web browsers.
Gaikai's service is designed to allow users to play games inside their web browser without having to download, install, or patch anything. With this server-based, cloud-gaming tech, users can play games embedded on retailers' sites, news sites, publisher sites, and even inside social networks like Facebook. Under its agreement with EA, Gaikai will offer titles from a number of the publisher's most popular PC franchises, such as The Sims, Battlefield: Bad Company, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Medal of Honor, and Need For Speed. "EA has some of the most important franchises in the video game industry, and we're excited to be able to use our streaming technology to help new audiences discover these amazing properties," says Gaikai CEO David Perry. "We are also excited to be powering a cutting-edge digital strategy with EA developers." EA's chief creative director Richard Hilleman adds, "Gaikai’s innovations open whole new experiences for both current players and new customers looking for the best of interactive entertainment. "It also brings new opportunities and capabilities that will improve both our craft and products, including secure beta-testing and the ability to instantaneously bring the latest games into the hands of our waiting audience."
