Discreet has announced the 3ds max Game Export Interface, a new extension to the 3ds max SDK. The new Game Export software consists of a set of C++ programming interfaces to make it easier to develop game export tools for target platforms like the Xbox, PS2, and GameCube. The new API is available through Discreet's sparks developer program, and can be downloaded from http://sparks.discreet.com/downloads/index.cfm?f=1#3. Discreet also announced new 3ds max support for DirectX 9, leveraging the new programmable shading technologies supported by Nvidia and ATI graphics cards. According to Discreet, 3ds max 5.1 lets users access and preview DirectX 9-based in-game effects as they build characters and game levels. The new support comes via a DirectX 9.0 compatibility patch for 3ds max 5.1, which can be downloaded at http://www.discreet.com/support.
