Digital Promise, FAS To Present Research During Innovation Week

The Federation of American Scientists (FAS) has indicated that it will present its latest research and findings regarding the use of advanced digital technologies for teaching, workforce training and lifelong learning during a presentation in Washington, D.C. on June 14 from 10:30 - 12:30 in room H-C5 of the U.S. Capitol. The FAS demonstration will consist of three separate games that provide an environment to teach skills for problem-solving and managing systems. The three games to be features during the event include Immune Attack, an educational video game that teaches human immunology for 9th grade – college level students; Discover Babylon, a cultural game that incorporates artifacts from exhibits at the Walters Museum of Art in Baltimore, MD, and transports the player to a virtual reality of ancient Mesopotamia (modern-day Iraq); and Multi Casualty Incident Responder, a high-stress, real-time training simulation for firefighters to serve as a national model for first-responder training. The event will feature several speakers who will present the latest research findings on the effectiveness of advanced technologies in meeting America’s pressing education and training needs. Corporate leaders and will follow with remarks on the corporate sector’s need for higher skill sets in employees and the need for greater federal investment, coordination and integration in this critical area. Speakers currently scheduled to attend the conference include Marland Buckner from Microsoft, Marland Buckner from BreakAway Games, Dexter Fletcher from the Institute of Defense Analyses, and FAS president Henry Kelly. The presentation will be part of a Digital Opportunity Investment Trust (DO IT) technology briefing and demonstration that will take place during the House's Innovation Week. The event is sponsored by the New America Foundation in cooperation with Congressman Ralph Regula (R-OH).
