Digimation has announced a new tool called Flatten. Flatten is for users of Discreet’s 3ds max who are looking to simplify their mapping, and wish incorporate advanced materials and procedural maps into their game engines. Flatten exists as a set of object modifiers that work with existing mapping channels to unwrap a model, and then collapse the channels down to a single map. Flatten works with all procedural map types and can create seamless bitmaps out of complex, layered procedural materials. Once Flatten is done, users are able to re-apply the new bitmap to their model and render. Render times are significantly reduced, and materials that users build can be converted and sent to any other 3D application or run time engine. Flatten is available for only $99 until July 6, when it will then retail for $149.
