The 2005 Dare to be Digital contest winners have been announced, in each of the competition's three main categories. The Dundee, Scotland-based contest pits student game designers against one another with a short deadline and industry advisors to produce the best game prototype in the course of the summer vacation. Students from anywhere in the world may enter. The 2005 winning teams were: The Frozen North, whose combination edutainment/rhythm action game Primary Steps won the Product With Greatest Marketing Potential category; Missing Link, whose Coda Chain won for Product With Greatest Innovation and Creativity; and Evil Machines, whose Corporate Warfare won the Technical Excellence Prize. The most honored individual designers were Pitipong Guntawong of Thailand, who took home the Best International Scholar award; Kai Chen of China, who won Best Programmer; Nancy Lai from Dundee, who won Best Artist; and Andy Hynes from Glasgow, who won Best Team Leader. "All the feedback I have received is that the value of Dare to be Digital is its capacity to allow individuals to be tested, inspired and taught, about the creative process, about technology, the market and challenges associated with teamwork and project management," said Professor Bernard King, principal of the University of Abertay Dundee, where the event is hosted.
