Curious Labs is now shipping Poser 5, the latest version of the company's 3D character animation tool.
Poser 5's new features include:
The FireFly renderer, a hybrid micro-polygon and ray-trace rendering engine with subdivision surface rendering of polygons, which enables render-time polygon smoothing, displacement mapping, 3D motion blur, depth-of-field effects, ray-traced refraction and reflection, procedural textures, shader trees with material nodes, dynamic hair with growth and styling, dynamic cloth with physics and parameter-controlled attributes, and photo-based facial mapping.
The Morph Putty tool, for interactive sculpting and manipulation of facial expressions.
Hierarchical Parameters Palette with parameter grouping functionality.
Hierarchical libraries with support for multiple Runtime folders.
All new 3D human figures with fully articulated hands and feet, featuring photorealistic texture maps and facial morphs.
Collision detection support.
Poser 5 is initially be available for Windows; details about a Macintosh version will be announced later this autumn.
Poser 5 is available at a street price of $349.
