Crysis developer Crytek is the latest video game developer to join the UK-based game industry trade group TIGA, the two parties announced Friday.
While Crytek is headquartered in Frankfurt, Germany, last year the company
purchased UK-based Free Radical Design, creator of the
TimeSplitters franchise. Free Radical is now known as Crytek UK.
"We are joining TIGA because we feel it is important to be part of the UK community and support TIGA in its mission to make the UK the best place in the world to do games business," said Crytek UK managing director Karl Hilton. "Crytek UK fully supports TIGA's campaign to gain Games Tax Relief for the UK games development industry to enable us to remain competitive in the international marketplace."
Aside from
Crysis and the upcoming
Crysis 2, the independent studio is also responsible for the CryEngine game technology.
On that note, Hilton added, "Crytek is also keen to work with TIGA’s university members and other academic institutions to give them free access to the CryEngine in the classroom. This will give students the chance to cut their teeth using the latest technology."
TIGA has been an outspoken advocate for tax breaks for game developers. "We hope more international companies will follow Crytek’s example by investing in the UK and recognizing the highly skilled and talented workforce we have here," said TIGA CEO Richard Wilson.
