Officials from German developer Crytek, creators of the original Far Cry
and PC franchise Crysis
, have announced that the company has acquired Bulgarian developer Black Sea Studios.
Based in Sofia, Bulgaria the studio will now be known as Crytek Black Sea. The developer is best known for PC real-time strategy game Knights of Honor
and the currently under development WorldShift
. The studio was founded in 2001, but financial details of the acquisition have not been revealed.
Crytek managing director Avni Yerli said the acquisition was key to continuing the company's expansion, and said the Black Sea studio would be "continually expanded in capacity."
Said Black Sea managing director Vesselin Handjiev, "Joining the Crytek family was a logical step for us as we think it is a perfect match. We are confident that our team has the creativity and passion to further contribute in creating innovative and enjoyable games. We are fascinated about this opportunity and we are looking forward to work in this new exciting environment as Crytek Black Sea."
