Corel will be rolling out the latest version of its 3D landscape creation and animation application, Bryce 5, on Macintosh OS and Windows in July. Bryce 5 is Corel's first application for Apple's new Mac OS X platform. Bryce 5 has multiple new features. Network Rendering has speed improvements in rendering by using multiple computers for processing a single image or animation. There is no limit to the number of systems used, and it is platform independent, enabling Mac and Windows users to render their images on either or both platforms simultaneously. In addition, Bryce 5 has Premium Rendering Options that facilitate the creation of naturally photorealistic images with depth of field, blurred reflections, and soft shadows. Bryce5 has added The Tree Lab, which facilitates the creation of organic 3D trees. Users specify the exact look and feel of trees in a scene, from density of foliage to tree type. It also adds Metaballs, a primitive object type that enable users to quickly create and experiment with organic shapes. The Light Lab, also new, gives more robust control over lighting direction, intensity and tinting. Bryce 5 will retail for $309 for all platforms. Registered users of any version of Bryce can purchase the upgrade version of Bryce 5 for $159.
