How much is
Halo 3 driving Xbox 360 sales? Analyst group Compete has crunched the latest numbers and predicted as many as 300,000 hardware unit sales could have come from the
Halo effect in the month before its release, and found surprising stats on
Halo's edition sell-through.
Compete has been analyzing
Halo and the 360's crossover since November of 2006 via online retailer statistics. The group found that in August alone, 22% of Xbox 360 shoppers also visiting
Halo 3 related pages.
"Amazingly," says the group, "through all of 2007, an average of nearly 16% of Xbox 360 shoppers also considered Halo 3. If this is any indication of sales, Halo 3 could have played a role in the sale of nearly 300,000 consoles in 2007 alone," saying the upward trend could push the console to the "tipping point" this holiday season.
The group also analyzed interest in each of the three software pacakges -- standard, limited edition and the legendary edition. According to the stats, 40% of interest was devoted to the basic pacakge, while 32% went to the legendary edition.
"People appear to have gone to either extreme," said Compete. "The mid-priced Limited edition received a scant 22% of interest."
"The marketing behind the game almost seems like a message to the past," concludes the analysts, "to the early adopters who waited for days in line for a product that was prone to hardware failure and lacking a decent launch-lineup: “believe”... that all those problems will be someday be worth it."
