Gamasutra's round-up of worldwide video game releases, "Release This!", focuses on some of the major game debuts for the week ending July 15th, including 3D Realms' Prey
in the U.S. and the quirky bit Generations GBA titles in Japan.
This extract from the regular column makes brief comment on the long on hiatus Prey
"First announced in 1995, it should be obvious that Prey has been the victim of numerous problems and setbacks over the many years the title has spent in development. Despite persistent rumors of cancellation and comparisons to fellow vaporware favorite Duke Nukem Forever, Prey is finally expected to see release this week for the PC and the Xbox 360.
Prey places the player in the role of a Native American youth who wants to escape reservation life, and summarily does so when he and several of his tribesmen are abducted by aliens. Reaction to the game's public demo has been positive, and gamers will soon have the opportunity to find out whether the decade Prey spent in development was worth it."
