Codemasters division Codemasters Online Gaming is trying a new MMO subscription approach named PlayPLUS
, which allows both a game subscription and in-game item purchases for a monthly fee, in its upcoming PC MMO ArchLord
The system will be integrated into the game in time for its launch in the third quarter this year. However, those participating in the forthcoming beta test will be able to test the system early. The PlayPLUS system will allow players to purchase subscription packages that include both game time and in-game bonus credits. Credits will be redeemable against bonus in-game items and benefits, such as teleportation spells, health boosts and many other enhancements.
The system will come with three monthly subscription package options. The entry-level package, Squire, will cost $9.99 (tax included), while the subsequent packages, Knight and Lord, will cost $19.99 and $39.99 a month respectively. Each package will include a credit allowance for players to purchase initial items and enhancements, which the higher priced packages offering a larger initial credit.
Items obtained using the bonus credits are additional to the standard in-game currency system and are only used as a way of enhancing your character further. Regular in-game items, including weapons, amour, potions, and mounts, will still be freely available through the regular in-game currency system.
“We are very pleased to bring this exciting concept PlayPLUS to the MMO market,” commented David Solari, Vice President & General Manager, Codemasters Online Gaming. “We believe the ability to utilize items will give players more freedom to develop their characters in the game world and will enhance their overall experience. Coupled with quality gameplay at a very competitive entry price we believe ArchLord
is the MMO to get into this year.”
