Cnet Promotes Torres To GameSpot Editor-in-Chief

Cnet consumer game site GameSpot has announced that former editorial director Ricardo Torres has been named the site's new editor-in-chief, following staffing shake-ups after the departure of fellow editorial director Jeff Gerstmann. Cnet says Torres has been with the site since 2001, where he has "secured exclusive previews of some of the most highly-anticipated games in the industry, wrote hundreds of reviews and previews for the site, and managed event coverage in the US and abroad," including E3, Tokyo Game Show, and European Xbox events. The company says Torres will "oversee GameSpot's award-winning editorial staff in their coverage of the latest games and breaking news." Torres' promotion follows the previously covered high profile departure of Gerstmann, who left amidst strong rumors that that he had been terminated from his position following complaints from Eidos Interactive over his review of Kane & Lynch: Dead Men. Said Cnet content VP Greg Brannan, “Ricardo has been a key member of the editorial team for years. I’m extremely confident in his ability to maintain GameSpot’s tradition of excellence in being the most reputable and outstanding game content site on the web.”
