Karl Jeffery, British CEO of officially Los Angeles-based developer Climax, has downplayed rumors of redundancies at the company, after media reports of 40 job losses at the company’s Solent office in the UK. "There have been no redundancies – it’s a miscommunication," explained Jeffery, talking to UK trade magazine/website MCV. However, he did admit to "a problem with a publisher" that has left the company still being owed a significant amount of money for titles currently in development. Staff have apparently been informed that if the situation is not resolved, their jobs could be at risk. This discussion comes only days after the company announced the merger of its teams into what it claims is the UK’s biggest development studio. Although promoted as the UK’s largest single studio, the newly named Climax Action will still be based in two distinct locations, in London and on the south coast in Solent. The new studio is intended to focus the company on producing new titles for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 2, and on its next-generation development tool set Tomcat.
