Independent developers Chair Entertainment (former
Advent Rising developers) have announced that the studio has become the latest to license Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 3 middleware solution for all of its current and upcoming game development projects.
According to Chair, the agreement covers titles developed for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, the first of which will be the company's upcoming Xbox Live Arcade release
Undertow.
First announced in April,
Undertow is an underwater conquest action title that is expected to debut over Xbox Live Arcade this summer.
At 50MB, and offering both a 15 level single player campaign and support for 16 player online battles, Chair officials boast that
Undertow offers “something that has not been achieved in any other [Xbox Live Arcade title] to date.”
Split off from the GlyphX development team, former developers of Xbox/PC action title
Advent Rising, Chair Entertainment also announced in June of last year their first major original IP,
Empire, co-written by author and
Advent Rising co-writer Orson Scott Card.
"The versatility and technological advantages provided by the Unreal Engine 3 have determined it to be our exclusive choice of technology for next-generation development," said Geremy Mustard, technical director at Chair Entertainment. "UE3 will enable our overflowing creative vision to spill into the hands of gamers sooner and at a much higher level of quality."
