Chair Halts Development On Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game Project

Shadow Complex and Infinity Blade developer Chair Entertainment said it has stopped work on its project based on author Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game, as parent Epic concentrates on original IP.
Shadow Complex and Infinity Blade developer Chair Entertainment said it has stopped work on its project based on Orson Scott Card's sci-fi novel, Ender's Game. Studio co-founder Donald Mustard told gaming site Joystiq about the decision to put the game on indefinite hold. "We have and had an amazing design for the Ender's Game game, [but] one of [parent company] Epic's primary objectives is to create original and unique franchises. I don't know that Ender's Game fits into that strategic objective anymore." Chair, which also developed the downloadable game Undertow, announced in January 2008 a project based on the "Battle Room" found in Ender's Game. In May that year, Unreal Engine and Gears of War creator Epic Games acquired the studio. Chair's popular Xbox Live Arcade game Shadow Complex was created in collaboration with Card, and the studio worked with the author on the Empire series of novels. Mustard said Chair would "probably not" ever finish the Ender's Game project, but said if someone else decided to make the game, he'd "love" to share some ideas. The studio's most recent game is the Unreal Engine-based iOS action-RPG Infinity Blade, a game that Mustard said was originally a concept for Microsoft's Kinect sensor.
