Cenega Publishing, the 1C-owned Czech publishers of PC titles including UFO: Aftershock and the upcoming El Matador, have announced the cancellation of PC and Xbox strategy RPG title The Roots, citing unspecific development issues as the reason for the cancellation. The Roots had been in development by Polish studio Tannhauser Gate, and was to offer a single player role-playing game with arena style turn-based, real time combat action coupled with exploration. The game was first announced in August 2003, and had suffered at least four previous delays prior to news that it had been canceled. However, developer Tannhauser Gate, which previously developed online PC RPG Mimesis Online, did complete N-Gage title The Roots: Gates of Chaos, based on the same franchise, for Nokia's mobile gaming device - that title, originally billed as a prequel to The Roots, was released in mid-2005. The official company statement on the matter read: "This decision has been made on the basis of serious problems that occurred during the development of the game and the project has been cancelled. We would like to apologize to all the fans of The Roots, who have been patiently, yet eagerly waiting for the release of the game and we hope that the release schedule of Cenega Publishing will provide other interesting game titles for them."
