At the CESA Developers Conference (CEDEC) in Yokohama,
Dragon Quest creator Yuji Hori walked away with the headline "Special Award," while dev teams behind
Okami and
Shadow of the Colossus were also recognized.
Hori's recognition
came a year after Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto won the same award for his contributions to gaming, according to Japanese gaming blog Andriasang.com.
The
Shadow of the Colossus programming team won the CEDEC award for programming, while the artists who worked on Capcom's
Okami walked away with the visual arts award.
Okami, which has appeared on PlayStation 2 and Nintendo Wii, is presented in a Japanese watercolor art style.
The
Monster Hunter Portable team won the award in game design, and another portable game, Nintendo's
Rhythm Heaven Gold won the sound category.
Winning the network category was Nico Nico Video, a Japanese video sharing service. A new literary award went to the authors of "Technology You Should Know Before you Become a Game Programmer."
CEDEC is run by by Japan's Computer Entertainment Supplier's Association, which also runs the annual Tokyo Game Show.
