Capcom has announced that
Bionic Commando is in development for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC platforms, marking the next-gen return of a vintage 8-bit franchise.
The upcoming
Bionic Commando takes its name and inspiration from the 1988 NES title, and features bionic government operative Nathan Spencer, voiced by former Faith No More lead singer Mike Patton. Spencer has been reactivated after years of false imprisonment to save Ascentsion City from terrorist forces.
The original
Bionic Commando featured swinging as a game mechanic, and the new
Bionic Commando sets Spencer in an environment of towering buildings, suspended roadways and monorails, deep canyons and sheer rock faces that allow gamers to traverse each area via multiple routes using swinging, rappelling, climbing and wall-walking techniques, while taking out enemies with his bionic arm.
The development team behind Bionic Commando consists of an American producer living in Japan, a Japanese creative advisor, and Swedish developer GRIN providing a European influence.
