Organizers of the Canberra Games Festival announced that the third annual event will take place from July 18-31 at various venues around the Australian capital city. The theme for this year's event, which is meant to establish Canberra as the ‘games capital’ of Australia, is “Culture · Art · Identity”, and will recognize the “positive contribution that games have made to our lives.” The nearly two week celebration will focus on the realization of games and interactive entertainment as a legitimate art form. The event will also pay tribute to contributors in the industry, as well as those who play games as their preferred pastime. Highlights of the upcoming event include a series of PC game tournaments including Counter-Strike, Battlefield 2, Warcraft III, and Quake 4. The celebration will also play host to a number of chess tournaments, as well as educational offerings for children and young adults.
