Butterfly.net, a provider of computing grids for MMOGs, announced plans for an educational program for developers and operators of online games. The program, to be offered through partnerships with major colleges and universities, will provide training in game development for large-scale massively multiplayer games.
In June, 2003, the University of Charleston in Charleston, West Virginia, will host a two-week instructional seminar in which students will work together with game industry professionals to create, deploy and test games on the Butterfly Grid, the company's infrastructure for online games. Upon completion of the BootCamp, supplemental coursework and competency testing, students will receive certification as Butterfly Certified Developers.
Following the BootCamp at the University of Charleston next summer, Butterfly says it will offer training and certification at additional sites worldwide. Those interested in receiving information about developer certification and upcoming BootCamps should register as a developer on The Butterfly Lab, linked off the Butterfly.net Web site at http://www.butterfly.net
