Butterfly.net, Inc., provider of fully integrated tools, middleware and services for the online video games industry, has announced that it has changed its name to Emergent Game Technologies. Originally founded in 2000, with its flagship product the IBM-powered Butterfly Grid network gaming environment, which appeared for both PC and PlayStation 2, the company is now repositioning itself under CEO Geoffrey Selzer, and will now build a new product suite that will be known as the Emergent Platform. "The name change reflects the direction of our strategy to take the company into a broader, more expansive market", said Selzer. "Over the next six-months, Emergent will be unveiling innovative solutions to meet market demands. Emergent Game Technologies is responding to customer needs with solutions that will provide visibility, functionality and stability in order to empower developers and publishers to focus on making great games both today and in the future." Emergent's team continues to work on scalable solutions to game developers and publishers eager to build and deploy MMOGs and casual networked games. The Emergent Platform, apparently a middleware networking platform, is designed to support today’s games as well as evolutionary game concepts and evolving business models.
