Developer Id Software hired English novelist Graham Joyce, the recipient of several British Fantasy Awards, to assist with the script for upcoming first-person shooter

Though he declined to provide any specifics behind the script, when contacted by UK consumer website CVG, the
author confirmed, "I can say that Id have hired me to help develop the storyline potential."
Joyce has published 26 short stories and 14 novels, three of which have been optioned for film adaptations. He has won four British Fantasy Awards, an Imaginaire Award, and a World Fantasy Award for his books.
Announced in May 2008,
Doom 4 will use Id's new multiplatform engine tech, id Tech 5 (as will the studio's other announced first-person shooter,
Rage). The title will release for PC and is also expected to ship for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
The developer hasn't announced much else about
Doom 4, but CEO Todd Hollenshead says that this new installment will follow familiar themes from its flagship series, promising, "There will be guns, blood, demons, and gibs."
