Representatives from developer Bohemia Interactive, best known for the Operation Flashpoint
series of titles, have announced that the company's new military training sim Virtual Battlespace 2 (VBS2) will be demonstrated at the upcoming 2006 The Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference. I/ITSEC 06 will be held at the Florida Convention Center in Orlando, from December 4-7.
VBS2 is a new product from Bohemia Interactive based upon the new Real Virtuality 2 game engine, featuring rapid terrain generation for mission rehearsal in high fidelity, realistic environments and other functional and graphical improvements over VBS1. VBS1, as well as the VBS1 Loadmaster Virtual Reality Simulator (LVRS) will also be showcased during the event.
In addition, VBS2 will also be featured by Laser Shot at the event as part of that company's simulated firing range, while NaturalPoint plans to demonstrate Armed Assault
, the PC game version of VBS2 that utilizes the latest Track IR technology. Other VBS2 components scheduled to be shown throughout the event include the Real Time Mission Editor, VBS2 ADF, USMC and US Army representations, and rapid terrain development functionality.
Bohemia Interactive is also supporting a distributed simulation exercise throughout the conference, involving the Joint Combined Training Centre, the USMC, and Calytrix Technologies. VBS will be connected via HLA to a range of simulations distributed around the exhibition hall, including JSAF and Steel Beasts.
Bohemia Interactive officials note that the VBS to Steel Beasts link-up is particularly interesting in that it offers both combined arms collective training (through VBS) and armored vehicle simulation (through Steel Beasts) for a single purchase price.
