Blender, a free, open-source tool for 3D modeling and animation, has released version 2.36 for download. The new release is available in both binary and source versions for Windows, OS X, Linux, Solaris, Irix, and FreeBSD from Blender’s download page. Version 2.36 mainly concentrates on bugfixes. Over 200 bugs were eliminated in the new release, with a few singled out for more detailed explanation. Normal and texture handling has been improved, particularly texture warping and bump-mapping on a rotating plane. Another major change is the addition of normal map support, to create accurate-looking fakes of 3D reliefs on textures. The full list of bugfixes, tweaks, and improvements can be found at the release notes for Blender 2.36.
