Alias|Wavefront has released the public beta of mental ray for Maya 1.5 for Windows and IRIX, which licensed users of Maya 4.5 can download freely.
The new version of the plug-in renderer includes these features:
mental ray-based convert-to-file texture
mental ray-based light mapping
Volumetric rendering
Render layers, render passes
Maya IFF image format output
Rendering of particle-instanced geometry
Ocean shader
Ramp shader
Volume light
Noise/volume-noise textures
Image plane rendering
The free public beta will be available for Linux and Mac OS X operating systems soon.
