European independent game developer Avalanche Studios (
Just Cause) has announced the latest version of its proprietary game engine, the Avalanche engine. This second full release is architected for next-gen consoles and is set to debut at this year's upcoming Tokyo Game Show.
The Avalanche Engine was used in the development of
Just Cause, thus far the studio's sole release as a company, and the latest release features a variety of enhancements, including what it calls advanced scalable landscapes and high end characterization.
Other key new features include expanded support for transition between different climate zones, advancements to the character system such as state-of-the-art animation, AI, facial rendering and emotional and behavioral modeling.
Said Avalanche CEO Christofer Sundburg, "Ultimately the engine will enable us to create games of epic scale and with great variation across genres and artistic styles for the next generation of gaming experiences."
