ATI Technologies announced it will be supporting the development of the next-generation 3GIO interconnect architecture. 3GIO is a serial I/O interconnect specification that will allow high speed connection of components as well as offer increased bandwidth for emerging applications.
While PCI will continue to be used in product designs, however, 3GIO could potentially be used as a new interconnect in the personal computer industry in order to meet the bandwidth demands of increasingly powerful applications.
