ATI announced today that it will add support for the OpenGL Shading Language to Rendermonkey 1.5, the upcoming version of the company's shader development tool. According to ATI, additions to the Rendermonkey 1.5 feature set include the import and export of stand-alone packaged effect files, an updated Microsoft FX exporter and support for procedural geometry and textures. Workflow improvements have been made to ease integration with developers' graphics engines and to support additional engine-driven shader parameters using custom names. Drag-and-drop operations are now possible in Rendermonkey too, and there is increased visual feedback for models and textures. A new Rendermonkey SDK lets developers customize the tool according to their individualized needs and develop custom components via a wizard that helps create new SDK projects. Rendermonkey 1.5 will be available for free download to developers at the end of March, followed by the free public download, available in April from www.ati.com.
