New data from marketing research firm Pearl Research has seen the company estimate that the top ten online games publishers in Asia generated revenues in excess of $2.0 billion in 2006. The company estimates that this figure will exceed $2.5 billion by the end of next year.
The findings are detailed in a new fifty page report from Pearl Research named “Online Game Publishers in Asia”. Other highlights include a total of ten online game publishers in Asia, primarily China and South Korea, whose revenues exceeded $100 million in 2006. A total of thirteen publishers are predicted to achieve this milestone by 2008.
The report also estimates more than 400 million Internet users across Asia, with growth driven by the emerging markets of China, Vietnam and India. These three markets in particular have seen a rapid rise in Internet and PC penetration, increasing urbanization and have a large youth population.
