In an announcement sent to Gamasutra, former Naughty Dog art director Bob Rafei and creative director E. Daniel Arey have revealed Big Red Button Entertainment, a new developer that intends "to become the United Artists of games."
The company, currently in its early stages, is sporting an
official website describing its objectives as "to create original character based intellectual properties for cross platform and cross media development."
The background of the two founders is notable - Rafei was the first employee at Naughty Dog and led visual development for
Jak & Daxter, as well as shaping the look of
Crash Bandicoot and most recently co-art directing
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.
Arey, who left Naughty Dog less recently and has provided high-level design input into games for some time, also worked in depth on series including
Gex, Crash Bandicoot, Jak & Daxter and
Uncharted.
The firm has not yet announced which projects it is working on - though it's currently recruiting for an executive programmer before it ramps up further.
