Staccato Systems, a wholly owned subsidiary of Analog Devices, announced they are bringing their technnology Analog Devices' SoundMAX PC audio system for PC OEMs, motherboard manufacturers, and game developers. SoundMAX with SPX (Sound Production eXtensions) is the first technology developed jointly by Staccato and Analog Devices, and will be supported on Intel desktop boards and by Sony Online Entertainment, who will use SoundMAX with SPX in their upcoming MMP fantasy game, Planetside. SoundMAX is an integrated hardware/software digital audio system that provides audio functionality similar to a high-quality sound card but residing on the PC's motherboard in a small hardware footprint. Staccato Systems' SPX technology adds what they term "audio animation," generating real-time interactive sound effects unique to each user's experience.
