After Record Year, GameCity To Return In 2011

Nottingham's GameCity festival will be back once again in 2011, and organizers have announced it'll run from October 25-29 in a variety of venues throughout the city. GameCity 6, as it's tentatively been titled, follows a 2010 event that broke its own records as it played host to 45,000 guests. Although the full lineup for GameCity 6 hasn't yet been revealed, expect announcements "the usual mix of AAA developers working side-by-side with the very best up-and-coming indie developers." "The critical, industry and public response to the festival in 2010 has been fantastically encouraging - proving there’s a real appetite for alternative ways of exploring video game culture." says event director Iain Simons. We can't wait to get to work on new ideas for 2011." GameCity is unusual among game events as it focuses on exhibits and events in a main tent and in other open locations in the city. It aims to provide a contrast to the closed and often overwhelming environment of consumer conferences, focusing instead on the culture and people of games in a way that aims to involve the public. Past events have welcomed Katamari Damacy creator Keita Takahashi, PaRappa creator Masaya Matsuura, LittleBigPlanet's Media Molecule and many others.
