Sydney-based animation and digital visual effects studio Animal Logic has announced its expansion into the games business with the launch of Animal Logic Interactive (ALI), a new division to be headquartered in Los Angeles.
Former Activision vice president of production Giancarlo Mori will head Animal Logic Interactive as senior vice president. The company says Mori has over 20 years experience in software development, including 12 years in senior roles in the games industry, overseeing development of games like Tony Hawk
, and other DWA Animation titles.
Animal Logic Interactive aims to focus on original game and interactive entertainment design and development for both traditional and emerging platforms and media. Though the new division is based in Los Angeles, Mori expects an “organic exchange” of talent, technology, and ideas between Animal Logic’s Australian and U.S. company operations.
Primarily known as a digital production company, Animal Logic has produced animation and visual effects for the film, television, and advertising industries. Its recent productions include work for movies Happy Feet and 300.
Said Mori: “With Animal Logic’s commitment to innovation, and the potential for creative and business synergies between its original properties, this is a unique opportunity to push the boundaries of interactive entertainment. Today, games are evolving in directions that allow for very new experiences, appealing to expanding audiences. Being passionate and open to the evolution of popular culture and of the craft of game-making is key to creating new compelling titles and franchises.”
