Ahead of its E3 Media & Business Summit presentation due later today, publisher Activision has announced that with over 8 million games sold during its first quarter, it now expects sales for the year to exceed the $1.8 billion predicted in May. The company said in May that it expected $1.8 billion for the full fiscal year and $425 million in its first quarter alone, as it released the results of its fiscal 2007 year. In that first quarter, Activision now says, it shipped more than four million units of Spider-Man 3, two million units of Shrek the Third, approximately one million units of Transformers: The Game and more than one million units of Guitar Hero II. The publisher expects to announce the full results of its first quarter fiscal 2008 earnings results at some point in early August. Said company chairman and CEO Robert Kotick, “We are pleased with the strong worldwide consumer response to our three movie-based games – Spider-Man 3, Shrek The Third and TRANSFORMERS: The Game – as well as the launch of Guitar Hero II on the Xbox 360."
