After admitting on Friday
that the company could face bankruptcy unless it secures another line of credit, representatives from Acclaim have announced the loss of the company's Major League Baseball and Turok licenses. In both cases alleged non-payment of royalty fees have resulted in the owners reclaiming their rights.
In the case of comic book character Turok this is of little importance, considering the commercial failure of the last game in the series, but the loss of the MLBPA license will mean that future iterations of All-Star Baseball
– one of the company’s best selling franchises – will not feature real player names and likenesses.
Company representatives are insisting that the MLBPA royalties have been paid thoughand have suggested there is some hope that an amicable solution can be made in time for the next game in the series.
