Organizers have announced that registration for the 2010 Global Game Jam is now open, and interested parties can secure a spot at one of more than 90 global locations. The Game Jams, which take place January 29, 2010, are aimed at fostering innovation and experimental design -- groups get together and, working under similar constraints and rules, must produce a working game concept within two days. The IGDA-affiliated event says it wants to offer professional developers, students and hobbyists alike to join and experiment, and that the event suits the group's stated mission of "connecting members with their peers and promoting professional development." The Global Game Jam will be hosted in over 90 cities, from Albany and Ankara to Tel Aviv and West Lafayette; a full list of host cities, as well as further info for interested parties, is available at the event's official website. "The 2010 Global Game Jam is a truly global event and the growth in venues is a great sign of the growing recognition and popularity of GGJ," says GGJ founder Susan Gold.
