Algoma University has announced the winners of the Arcademy Games Awards. The three first prize winners are
ResponseReady in the serious games category, Jason Rohrer’s
Cultivation in the indie games category, and
Booze Cruise in the student game category.
New this year, and held at the recent Future Play 2007 Conference in Canada, the Arcademy Games Competition was sponsored by Festival Arcadia. The compeition featured head-to-head contests between games from Canada, Greece, the U.K., and the U.S. The first place winners received prize packages worth more than $5,000.
Cultivation, the indie game category winner, is a game about the social interactions within a gardening community. The serious games category winner,
ResponseReady, is an “expect the unexpected” emergency preparedness scenario game, while student game winner
Booze Cruise is a driving game designed to increase awareness about drinking and driving.
Second place winners include
Stick Arena,
Meet Officer Roberts, and
Cleanly Childcare, where players step into the shoes of a daycare worker.
Festival Arcadia first showcased the submitted games at its show in Montreal to 22,000 visitors, where a game called
Game Over! received a People’s Choice award.
