Organizers of the seventh annual Independent Games Festival [part of the CMP Game Group, like Gamasutra] have announced the twenty finalists in the 2005 IGF Competition. The competition was open to any and all independent developers, and organized into two categories: Web/Downloadable and Open. Six cash prizes are given to games in each of the two categories for Innovation In Visual Arts, Innovation In Audio, Innovation In Game Design, Technical Excellence, Audience Award and the Seumas McNally Award for Independent Game of the Year. A jury appointed by the IGF selected the following twenty entries to advance to the final round. These games will be displayed at the IGF Pavilion at the Games Developers Conference (GDC), March 9-11 in San Jose, California. The winners will be announced at GDC on the evening of March 9th.
There's more information about each of the finalists on the official IGF homepage, and independent gaming sites DIYGames and GameTunnel have just released a two-part comprehensive overview of each individual entry in this year's IGF competition, including the finalists.
