Nintendo officials have announced that the codename for the company’s next generation home console is ‘Revolution’. The future console has previously only been referred to, unofficially, as ‘N5’. In its press announcement today the company also took yet another opportunity to confirm that the Revolution would be show at next year’s E3.
The company said that it plans to boost research and development costs 27% from a year ago to ¥20 billion ($180m), in part to fund development costs for Revolution.
Company representatives were keen for the Revolution not to be seen as a simple successor to the GameCube though, with senior MD Yoshiro Mori commenting that, “This won't be a continuation, but rather something entirely different.”
